June Whitewater Rafting Trip

June 11, 2022 @ 8:30 am June 12, 2022 @ 2:00 pm

Our June camping trip which is whitewater rafting! For those who came last year, due to a bridge closing, we ended up on a calmer stretch of the river. This year we will be on a different part of the river and it is a dam release weekend which means we should see Class II to III rapids.

Sign Ups
As you all know we typically use Scoutbook for sign ups, but our reservation for the weekend is limited to 68 and so we’ve created a SignUpGenius page in case we reach to that number. So first come, first served. Sign up now! Parents are always welcome, but this has always been more of a Scout/parent weekend then our regular trips, so do consider coming along.

Weatherly, PA 18255-4218

We will be assigned a campsite this week and will share that location once we have it. It is close to the rafting location.

Permission Slips/Waivers
Scouts need the traditional trip permission slip that can be found in Scoutbook on the calendar page for the event. https://scoutbook.scouting.org/mobile/dashboard/calendar/event.asp?EventID=3853505

Additionally, and VERY IMPORTANT, each participant needs to fill out a waiver for the outfitter. This is done online here: https://waiver.smartwaiver.com/w/5a8f32ca87942/web/?auto_tag=fh_id_109811579

Food
Everyone should plan on bringing a bag lunch for Saturday. We will stop along the river to eat. Best to waterproof it if possible, but they also say “A waterproof lunch container is provided for each raft.”.

Here is some additional information provided from the outfitter.

ESSENTIAL COVID-19 PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES
Regarding COVID-19, we take your health and safety as seriously as ever. As such (and in accordance with CDC guidelines) masks are optional at our Rafting Center and Campground. Thank you for respecting those around you, and for helping keep all of us healthy and safe.

TIMELY ARRIVAL: Our trip times are strictly regulated by the Park, so we can’t guarantee how long we can wait for late arrivals. Be sure everyone arrives no later than your stated arrival time.

PROPER FOOTWEAR: Flip-flops, flimsy or loose-fitting sandals, “crocs” and bare feet are NOT permitted on the river. Old sneakers are the best. Sturdy sandals (like TEVA’s) are acceptable. Appropriate footwear can be purchased or rented at our Adventure Center.

WHAT NOT TO TAKE IN YOUR RAFT: Leave dry clothes and towels in your car for after the trip. Don’t take in your raft any valuables, keys, coolers, alcohol, glass containers, pets, or cameras that aren’t waterproof. Car keys can be left at the Rafting Center.

WHAT TO WEAR & BRING: You WILL get wet. On warmer days, a swim suit or T-shirt and shorts are fine. Sunscreen and a visor or brimmed hat are always a good idea. In cooler weather a windbreaker is useful. Avoid cotton, especially sweat shirts and sweat pants, which will actually make you colder. If wearing glasses, be sure to secure them with reliable glass-straps. Wet suits are available to rent at the Rafting Center. Please bring a simple lunch, or purchase one here. Please also bring along a small ziplock baggie to keep your mask dry for the bus shuttle at the end of your trip.

RAFT GROUPINGS: Please be sure there’s at least one adult in each raft. Organize your group into rafting teams of 5, 6 or 7 before you get your PFD’s. Smaller groups will be combined to make rafting teams.

MEALS: A waterproof lunch container is provided for each raft. Remember to have your lunches in-hand before heading for PFD’s.
