Evan Biondi and Peter Johnson of Scouts BSA Troop 542 in Maple Glen, Pa., received the Eagle Scout Award, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America, at a recent Court of Honor ceremony.
Evan Biondi joined the scouting program as a Cub Scout before crossing over to Troop 2010. There he held leadership positions including troop guide and chaplain aide, advancing to the rank of Star. He then moved with his family to Philadelphia and joined Troop 542 in 2015, where he continued his journey to Eagle, and held positions including chaplain aide. During his scouting career he earned 21 merit badges, participated in a Sea Base High Adventure sailing program, and attended summer camp with Troop 542 at Resica Falls.
For his Eagle project, he led a team of more than 20 volunteers to build a 300-foot trail in Pine Run Township Park in Upper Dublin that was framed with logs and covered with wood chips. Biondi currently attends Penn State Abington, where he is studying forensic science.
Peter Johnson earned 25 merit badges and held leadership positions including outdoor ethics guide, quartermaster, instructor and patrol leader. He attended summer camp at Resica Falls with Troop 542 for 5 years, helped many of his fellow Scouts with their Eagle projects and participated in numerous Troop outings.
For his Eagle project, Johnson led a group of more than 50 youth and adults who cleaned and painted Ambler Junior Baseball and Softball’s Pickering Park Field House in Ambler. He collected a record number of more than 1500 new or used baseball and softball equipment and uniforms which were donated to Pitch In For Baseball and Softball to benefit underprivileged children participating in these sports. Johnson currently attends Pennsylvania College of Technology, studying residential construction and construction management.
Scouts BSA Troop 542, based at Supplee Presbyterian Church in Maple Glen, Pa., has more than 100 youth members and is led by Scoutmaster John Schultz. Since its inception in 1969, more than 170 Scouts from Troop 542 have earned the rank of Eagle.
