On Friday, October 22, 2021, more than 50 Scouts and adults embarked on Troop 542’s first rock climbing camping trip at Tohickon Valley Park in Point Pleasant, PA. The campsite was relatively local, being a 40-minute drive from the Troop’s meeting place at Supple Presbyterian Church. Led by instructors from Doylestown Rock Gym, the Scouts tackled three natural rock faces of varying difficulty just a short hike away from the campsite. The instructors set up ropes and belayed participants–keeping them safe and allowing them to easily descend–as they navigated up a complex rock face with many cracks, ledges, and holds.
On Sunday morning, the Troop held an interfaith service based on the idea of helping others. Despite some unexpected showers of rain, the trip went smoothly, and many Scouts got to experience rock climbing outside for the first time.
