In July, 20 Scouts and 14 adults embarked on a fun-filled week-long adventure to the Florida National High AdventureSea Base, located in the picturesque Florida Keys. Scouts and Scouters gathered for an early morning trip to the airport aboard the church bus and van, then flew to Ft. Lauderdale and drove toKey Largo, where they ate a late lunch and spent the night at the Amoray Diving Resort. The 11-person scuba crew remained at the resort, where they dived twice a day for 6 days. They visited several different reefs, and did a wreck dive on the USS SpiegelGrove, a Cold War-era landing ship whose deck was submerged under 90 feet of water. The three sailing crews travelled from Key Largo to theSea Base in Islamorada, where they met their captains and were assigned their sailboats. Each crew spent the week helping sail the boats by rigging the sails and adjusting course as they navigated around the Keys. They stopped periodically to snorkel, fish and resupply. After a relaxing week, the crews flew home to Philadelphia. When asked, one of the members said “Sea Base is a great first trip for those looking to try high adventure. Whether you’re sailing the Keys or exploring coral reefs, Sea Base offers a laid-back but rewarding experience.”
